Metallica的第一张专辑，原名叫做《Metal Up Your Ass》。1983时乐队迁至三藩市，与Megaforce Records公司签约， Cliff Burton代替了McGovney，前 Exodus乐队的Kirk Hammet代替了Mustaine之后录制的。Cliff Burton的贝司非常出色，这也是Cliff Burton在Metallica期间为数不多的专辑之一，也是Metallica最经典的专辑之一。1986年9月27日，在至Stockholm途中，贝斯手Burton 跌出车窗，当场死亡。
