Arch Enemy 也许是最好的纯金属乐队了，拥有纯粹的进攻性，技术高超的创作才能，简单易记的歌曲。伴随着"Wages Of Sin"Arch Enemy 已经挣脱了世界的控制。这时候乐队的成员是吉他Michael Amott和他的弟弟Christopher，主唱Angela Gossow，鼓手Daniel Erlandsson，贝司Sharlee D'Angelo.

如果简单的说Arch Enemy只是在传统金属中加入了鞭笞和死亡金属的味道是不公平的。1996年他们在欧洲发行的首张专集"Black Earth“充分说明了这一点。这张专集尽现他们独特的风采，旋律化的节奏，前卫的鼓击，冰冷的吉他双旋律完美和谐，还有力量快速的演唱。专集由Fredrik Nordstrom (At The Gates, Hammerfall)制作，Black Earth的出现震惊了整个金属界，给歌迷留下的是惊喜和更多的等待。

1997年乐队再次和制作人Fredrik Nordstrom合作录制了专集"Stigmata"。这张专集在歌曲创作方面更加成熟，但是在制作方面却有许多的不足，"Stigmata"吸引了各种类型金属乐迷的目光。

Arch Enemy的第三张专集"Burning Bridges”是乐队永不停止的音乐才华的又一展现。专集将死亡，鞭笞，前卫金属旋律化地完美结合。过去的几年中，Arch Enemy在日本已经逐渐成为最成功的极端金属乐队，他们1999年在日本的第三次巡演之后发行的现场专集"Burning Japan"便是促成这一结果的导火索，这张专集于2000年仅在日本发行。

2000年秋Arch Enemy与前主唱Liiva分裂，他们觉得他们的新专集"Wages Of Sin"需要一个更具侵略性和紧张感的声音。幸运的是，他们在德国发现了让人惊喜的Angela Gossow，这个有着恶魔般多变又令人恐惧的吼叫的金属女神！！

为了录制 "Wages Of Sin"，乐队再次回到了瑞典Gothenburg熟悉的Studio Fredman。这次的最后混音工作是在英国由著名的金属制作人Andy Sneap（伟大的Testament, Nevermore and Stuck Mojo就是出自他手）完成的。Andy Sneap将Arch Enemy已完成的专集进行了现代化的处理，使得"Wages Of Sin"更受期待了。

像单曲"Enemy Within", "Burning Angel" 和邪恶的"Ravenous"展示了乐队的对我们听觉的冲击。"Wages Of Sin"得到了整个金属界的赞扬。新专集是艰苦工作和乐队成员完美配合的颠峰。扭曲的riffs，猛烈的solos，易记的旋律，完美的和弦，前卫情绪化的演唱，还有理性的歌词，都使的他们将一般的金属乐队远远抛在后面了。

瑞典超级组合Arch Enemy带着他们旋律暴虐的经典之作"Wages Of Sin"回归了。Arch Enemy用女主唱代替了前任主唱Johan Liiva成为极端金属历史上第一支拥有女主唱的乐队。Angela Gossow特别的音域--从低声的嘶吼到侵略性的咆哮--给以新专集"Wages Of Sin"一个终结极度的接触。

乐队的前三张专集"Black Earth", "Stigmata", "Burning Bridges"在90年代末的极端音乐界产生了巨大影响，并且在世界范围内都得到了好评，几年中一再再版。

Arch Enemy比以前更强大了并将再次征服整个金属界！金属终于又回来了，而Arch Enemy正是这个的先锋！！

Anthems of Rebellion continues in the same vein as Wages of Sin. Arch Enemy doesn\'t come up with the most original ideas or riffs, but the twin guitar attack of the Christopher Amott and his brother Michael Amott is appetizing, tuneful and rocks out without getting bogged down too much in self-indulgent displays of virtuosity. Vocalist Angela Gossow sounds ferocious, but her singing also sounds too samey at times and may be a too harsh to perfectly fit the band, even though she sounds a bit more polished than the group\'s previous vocalist, Johan Liiva. Meanwhile,Gossow and Michael Amott provide lyrics that address oppression, alienation and dehumanization (including a song titled \"Dehumanization\" and featuring words such as \"Sowing a seed of suffering/Upon their fertile hearts/Damned misled children/You never stood a chance\"). In general, the lyrics aren\'t particularly impressive and the band has only mixed success at musically evoking the pervasive sense of menace as they seem to be going after. Still, this is a reasonably solid album that should appeal to the band\'s fans.

Anthems of Rebellion延续了Wages of Sin的风格。虽然Arch Enemy不再拥有建队初的音乐理念和吉他riff，但双胞胎吉他手Christopher Amott和他的兄弟Michael带给人的冲击是震撼的，他们的演奏是和谐而又充满激情的，但并没有过多的炫技成份。主唱Angela Gossow的嗓音还是那么凶残，但是即便她的嗓音比乐队的前主音Johan Liiva略显细腻，她的演唱仍然有时显得缺乏变化而且听起来过于粗糙以至不能完美地融入乐队的音乐中去。另外，Gossow 和Michael Amott共同编写的歌词充斥着描写压抑、精神错乱和灭绝人性的主题（例如"Dehumanization"中唱到"Sowing a seed of suffering/Upon their fertile hearts/Damned misled children/You never stood a chance"）。可惜的是，这些歌词并没有给人们留下太深刻的印象，而乐队这张专辑的成功仅仅在于乐队一直拥有的深厚的音乐功底。当然，对于乐队的忠实歌迷来说，这张专辑还是应该有一定吸引力的。
